Poulton-le-Fylde

Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, United Kingdom

I made another trip to the Fylde today - my second visit in two days, this time to the town of Poulton le-Fylde, with is a few miles north-east of the much larger town of Blackpool. I thought it was a nice, somewhat sedate town, with quite an elderly population like much of the Fylde area. The nice weather probably helped, too.

So, without further ado, here are the pictures.

This is one of the main streets into the town of Poulton. That building across the road to the left is the Poulton-le-Fylde branch of Lancashire Library, which ain't all that bad.

A street scene:

A closer shot of Poulton library:

A shot of the street just outside the library:

A few pictures from inside the shopping centre itself:

The town centre and the war memorial:

Part of the war memorial with a Group 4 Securicor van in the background. When I was in Poland my friend wanted to show me what the security men were like compared to here in the United Kingdom. In Poland, he says, they're armed to the teeth with bullet-proof vests, shotguns, rifles, pistols, knives, the bloody works. He tells me that when he first came to the UK and saw a security van he was shocked to find the driver in nothing more than a helmet and uniform. I guess it's one of the many differences between our two countries.

The Poulton-le-Fylde branch of Lancashire Constabulary:

More of the town centre:

One of the many drinking establishments in and around Poulton:

And what could it be but a bloody pigeon...?

One of the minibuses that ferries people up and down the Fylde coast.

The Poulton-le-Fylde chain of the Booths supermarket:

Another street scene, this time at the bus stop:

An old-style red public telephone box. I know a certain young lady (she knows who she is) that I suspect will be rather gratified by this sight!

Another shot of the war memorial that we saw parts of further up the page:

These last few pictures were taken at the Wyre estuary site a couple of miles away from the town of Poulton-le-Fylde but I thought it best for the sake of completeness and so on to stick them at the end of this entry.

Two men took their Vauxhall Frontera out and decided to park it down here. Where the sea is. And where the tide was due to come in an hour or two after we left this place. What cretins, we thought. I think they got themselves a tiny bit stuck there, don't you?

Over in the distance in this photo is the ICI plant.

And to finish off: two photos of the Wyre estuary:

And that's it - all done. I hope you can't wait to join me on my next visit to some random town somewhere in the north-west of England. Until then, sayonara.

Comments:
Hello, My Names Richard Benson and I have lived in Poulton all my live (26 years). I notice you have not photographed the "land mark" of Poluton, The Stocks. Located at the end of the market square. This was used to lock someone to years ago while the towns folk would hurl objects at the offender. Just a note that not many people know of. My Great Grand Parents owned a Farm called Butlers Farm. When was sold for land in the 1950s, at the same time the Stocks were vandalised and the gate posts from the farm were used to replace the stock posts. There still there today. I have a hand painted picture of the farm looking through the gate posts by my mother, aged 8 in my hall.
